Basic info about Korbulys and the exchange program
Dear new Member of our Family,
We would like to point out a few things that can greatly contribute to the 10 months we spend together. Knowing them and observing them in some places will result in a lot of joy and experience for all of us.
First of all, please note that we take part in the reception of exchange students on a voluntary basis, completely free of charge. This is not a hotel but with high chance, high hopes you will become a part of our family, we would love to have it that way. Our aim is to contribute to you to gather lots of great, new experiences, new friendships and getting to know a new world for children like you, who are open to the world and interested in different cultures. Till today we had 2 very successful exchange programs which become a real success for all of us (Nada from Thailand and Anna from Sardinia, Italy), and we had one that didn’t succeed and one that didn’t hold much for all of us. What we learned as experience, that made the two years so great that both Nada and Anna became a part of our family, and what we also learned from the programs that failed made us one of the most experienced exchange families in Hungary. We truly believe we can make our year in common a great success, and for that please try to think about, and accept our recommendations and some basic rules from below.
The most important: Say it! 😉 If you have any problem or you like something, please say it out instantly. Don’t let things cummulate. We also will do it. This helps both of us to find and solve problems, and make our common time valuable and all experiences unforgettable!
Second most important: Be the YES kid! This means if there is a program opportunity – coming from us, friends here, or from the school or YFU –, then participate as much as you can. The more you are open, the more interesting, unforgettable things will happen to you.
Any program idea is highly appreciated. We love to do interesting programs inhouse and out anywhere. Also you can give ideas to where to go with the RV.
We share our positions on Apple’s FindMy system so that we can support each other the easiest. We don’t check and follow you, we only access the position of each other, if we feel something not normal or it helps all of us to get together easier. That’s why we are also sharing our position so this way it can be a symmetrical trust from both sides.
Try to minimze phone use to communicate with home – family and friends. When you feel yourself alone or homesickness comes in, then it is very easy to reach back to home and friends there, but only gives a temporary solution. Now you should try to integrate to a new culture, you are building up new friendships. The kids here, and also us as a family are willing to help you with our most possible efforts. Be open and tell us when you feel so, and surely we will figure out something. Phone can be well used to share your experiences on social platforms, ask everyone at home to follow you there, and be kind to share enough for them to feel you are still close there – possibly silently.
Some house rules
Hot water is made by a boiler, so the amount is limited, use it with care otherwise someone will freez in the family.
Cleaning is done every Tuesday and Friday, free entrance to all rooms are required.
Washing machine goes every Tuesday and Friday. Please put out the laundry rack the evenings before. It’s done by Mariann, our cleaning support. She also can be asked to iron some clothes, but you also can do it for yourself.
We love to wake up at 8:00 (6:00) and go to finish the day early 20:00 (23:00) also on weekends. We love to do as many programs as possible = needs to be woken up to participate.
Breakfast is at 8:00, dinner is aligned to the given program. If you don’t join us on the breakfast or dinner, then it’s on one hand not that good, on the other you will be required to make your own dish that time. These common dining events are a great gathering points for the family, we love to talk about the plans or happenings of the day, meanwhile these dinings are typically very good too.
We love to have our breakfast together, and also the dinner together.
Help in setting and taking down the dining table is appreciated.
Please put the dishes to the dishwasher carefully.
We use high-end dishes, so handle them with care.
We love to cook and experiment. Join us, it’s a great fun together!
You can use any toilet in the house, and use the shower in the ground floor behind the fireplace. Leave everything as clean behind, as how you found it.
When we have an agreed appointment / deadline, please take it very seriously. We also do that.
We love to go to the family market on Sundays to Visegrád. It would be great, if you could join as many times as possible.
We drink spring water that we collect. If it’s possible, then we connect it to the family market in Visegrád. It would be amazing if you would join us as many times as possible.
We care of the environment. We don’t waste
- water,
- energy,
- food.
We try to use everything wisely.
You can easily commute by yourself by using the public transportation, but we are also here to help. Many times we can plan our programs to be able to bring you to Budapest to your own programs, and we very much hope that we will have many common programs too.
We have electric scooters for sightseeing or for commuting in the city, but you should use it very carefully, on your own risk.
We love to speak and to listen too. We can do it in Hungarian, but also in German and English is also an always working option. This is a much better program than watching the TV or your mobile.
When you make programs out with your friends, then we should know about it prior to it, and you should get back home latest at 21:00. We can make any kind of exceptions, but that’s always a discussion between us.
Once we will bring you to school, show you how to get there. Then it’s going to be your own challenge to get there and back. It’s really easy, only taking the bus from home to the school directly. There might be exceptions, when we can also bring you, but that is going to shape out later.
RV – Caravan rules
You have your own cabinet and your own bed in front of the car. It is pretty separate from the parent bedroom at the end of the car.
There is only 100L clean water at start that we are living from. Even though it is drinkable, still we always bring 10-15L fresh water from the spring too for drinking, that’s a very healthy, very good water. This 100L is enough for some short showerings, to use the toilet, to use the dishwasher, so there is every comfort in it, but only as a tiny house.
If we run out of water, then we can get it at some places, but that’s not that easy, so the best if we don’t need to do it.
You can charge your phone, tablet, computer in the RV.
